    The French model of the supersonic airliner flew from the US capital, Washington, to Orly airport in Paris in three hours 32 minutes.
    The pilots, Jean Franchi and Gilbert Defer, cut the previous record for a transatlantic airliner journey in half, flying the plane at an average speed of 954 mph (1,535 kph).
  • Cyclone Tracy devastates Darwin, Australia, 25th december 1974, devastating high winds of up to 135mph and driving rain tore through homes, flooded streets and left up to 90% of the town in ruins. 65 people died and 145 were seriously injured.
  • 30th April 1975, the war in Vietnam ended, the government in Saigon announced its unconditional surrender to North Vietnamese forces.
  • Franco's 36-year reign ends, 29th October 1975, General Franco's dictatorship ended, heir designate Prince Juan Carlos took over as provisional head of state for Spain.
